Best of BobBlast - CitraSolv Brush Cleaner & Pattern Maker

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

In previous BobBlasts, I have talked about brush cleaners and how to rejuvenate old, tired, worn out paint brushes.

In this Best of BobBlast, I wanted to show you one of my favorite cleaners: CitraSolv! A powerfully concentrated cleanser and degreaser, this versatile citrus solvent is a natural cleaner with a Valencia orange fragrance and juice from the orange peel. Really! It's natural! Unlike turpentine, mineral spirits or petroleum distillates, it's a safer and natural cleaner.

So, at the end of an oil or acrylic painting day, I wipe the brush and dip in a cup of this stuff - then I swirl the brush in the palm of my hand, with a little warm water. Everybody gets clean. Rinse with water... and repeat.

But wait! Let the cup of CitraSolv stand overnight - the pigment sinks to the bottom. In the morning, pour off the top clear solvent and use it again! No toxic fumes - only the accumulated sludge left at the bottom. Discard the sludge!

That's just the cleaning part... there's even more cool things you can do with CitraSolv! Watch the video - I do a demo, showing how you can make your own graphic patterns from pages of a National Geographic magazine. Here are the steps:
1) Assemble your tools: CitraSolv, copy of a National Geographic Magazine
2) Open the magazine and sprinkle a few drops of the CitraSolv on the pages.
3) Squeeze out the excess CitraSolv
4) After approximately 30 minutes, open the magazine

The finished pages will surprise you with unpredictable and unique papers. How? The CitraSolv dissolves the soy-based printing inks, resulting in unpredictable patterns on each page. It's magical! I use these pages later in my collages. Above is the painting "Citrus Pear" - mixed media, using collage created with CitraSolv and Holbein Artist Acrylic Paint.

CitraSolv has an inspiring website - all about their cleaners... then look on the menu for their Artist Site - with examples, teaching tools and their latest art contest, where you can win great CitraSolv products! Here is a link to the most current CitraSolv Art Contest -  Art Contest Info

Hope you like Valencia Oranges! (They also offer Lavender!)
