One of the largest chicken barbecues on skewers in the southern region of Brazil, with almost 1 ton of meat served to 1,200 people, was the attraction of the Festa do Galeto de Linha Imperial, Nova Petrópolis, in Serra Gaúcha.
The traditional event, in its 58th edition, filled the party pavilion of the São Lourenço Mártir Church, on Sunday, March 17, 2024, and relied exclusively on the voluntary work of members of the local community.
The success of the grilled chicken meat was due to the marinade, prepared on Saturday morning, the day before, made with rosemary, parsley, sage, chives and peppers, with a special touch of beer and lemon. The variety of cuts also made a difference: from "primo canto" chicken, wing drumstick, tulip, breast fillet with bacon, thigh and drumstick, to chicken heart and sausage, all roasted to the right point and with an indescribable flavor.
Nova Petrópolis is located 90 kilometers from the capital of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, in one of the most important tourist regions in Brazil. Colonized by German immigrants, it has 20 thousand inhabitants and is recognized as the National Capital of Cooperativism.
