Almost 30 years after her last run 614 is about to be restored again. News is she is expected to soon power trains after a complete overhaul. Until that day let’s look back in time so we can see what we can look forward to. Enjoy the sights and awesome sounds of this massive engine and see why 614 was so popular. It’s Sunday Oct 27, 1996 and we are in Hoboken New Jersey. Chesapeake and Ohio 614 is about to make a roundtrip excursion run to Port Jervis New York. The 614 has pulled three weekends of trips on New Jersey Transit this October and this is the last for the season. However, this is just the beginning of what will go on to be three successful years of trips on New Jersey Transit.
Sit back and enjoy as 614 puts on a beautiful show. As owner Ross Rowland would say this is the full Monty. High speed steam, no diesel and open windows for the fans.
In Port Jervis the 614 is turned on the still active turntable. It also attracts the usual large crowd. After 614 is turned everyone is treated to not just one photo runby but a generous four.
It’s virtually dark and 614 has stopped at Waldwick New Jersey to let passengers off. A New Jersey Transit train loudly screams past telling people to get out of the way. 614 is not intimidated as she loudly storms away from the station.
