In this video, C. Vision Productions takes you back to 1990, in our continuing coverage of Chicago’s fast-paced railroad operations. Conrail will be the focus of this program, as videographer Dan Hadley tours eastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana in search of “Big Blue.” Conrail and Amtrak trains are seen at several points in Indiana on the Chicago Line, including Porter (Chesterton), Burdick, Otis, and Durham. Next, we’ll visit the Chicago hotspot of Dolton Junction, where we’ll see trains of Conrail, CSX, Union Pacific, and Indiana Harbor Belt. Coverage of the semaphore-equipped crossing at Brighton Park is also included. The variety of motive power operating in 1990 was quite impressive. Locomotive models featured in this video include SW1500, GP15-1, GP15AC, GP15T, GP38, GP38-2, GP39-2, F40PH, GP40-2, GP50, SD40, SD40-2, SD45-2, SD50, B23-7, B36-7, B40-8, SF30C, C30-7A, and C39-8.
