Welcome back to What’s For Tea, and for tea tonight I made these individual cottage pies in pastry cases! I was inspired to make these after seeing them in a bakery whilst I was on a break on the Isle of Arran! I added grated cheese to half of my pies...but if you want pale tops (like in the picture) don't add the cheese and use a little parsley instead :)

What I used (I made 7 pies)
For the mashed potato-
1kg (around 2 lbs) Floury potatoes such as Maris Piper, King Edward or Red Roosters
Knob of butter
50ml (1.6 floz) Cream
80g (2.8 oz) Grated cheddar cheese
For the filling-
450g (1 lb) Good quality minced beef or lamb
1 Large onion finely diced
3 Carrots finely diced
200g (7 oz) Frozen garden peas
2 Beef OXO cubes (or 2 teaspoons of beef bullion)
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 Tablespoon tomato puree
300ml (10.5 floz) Water
1 Tablespoon plain flour
Additional ingredients-
Puff or shortcrust pastry for the cases (make your own or use ready made)
A little oil for frying
Optional parsley to garnish
Salt & pepper to taste
