I sat in this armchair for about two hours looking at the bright flames of the burning fire in the fireplace. Then I remembered the gift that Elizabeth had given me yesterday. But I couldn't open it, because I promised to wait 2 weeks. Those were the longest two weeks of my life. And then that very day came, exactly 14 days had passed. I took the box that Elizabeth gave me. It was exciting, I didn't know what was inside. Then, pulling one ribbon, I opened the box. Inside I saw a small roll of paper, it was a letter. Under it lay a small frame with a photograph. The photo was of Elizabeth and me in the 8th grade. This photo was taken together in the park on a summer evening during a walk. I unfolded the letter and read it. It read: "Dear Richard, I want to give you this photo as a memory and a symbol of our friendship. Once in our youth, there were feelings between us, but now a lot has changed. I'm getting married soon and I'll have to leave. Before that I wanted to see you. Thank you for everything, my friend. I hope we'll see each other again." At the bottom of the letter was the inscription Postscript: "Please forgive me for having to deceive you and for leaving early. Bye..." After reading this letter I didn't know whether to be happy or sad. I understood that what had happened in my youth remained there. After this letter and gift my soul felt lighter. Later I made myself some berry tea, sat by the fireplace again, and looked out the window. A snowstorm was raging outside, but the house was warm and cozy, just like my soul."
