In this week’s episode, we tackle one of our most complex DIY projects yet—a precision line boring job on a 3.0L diesel V6 engine block. Christian built a custom line boring rig entirely from scratch in his machine shop. This rig includes the complete custom boring bar, cutter, and a dedicated drive system. He even developed a precise measuring process to monitor the boring through the four main bearing holes of the cast engine block.
After some extensive debugging, we managed to bore the main bearing holes to an impressive level of accuracy. To cap off the process, we temporarily installed the bearings with the crankshaft and conducted a plastic gauge test, which delivered very promising results.
This job was so intense and detailed that the final video runs for over an hour.
Join us for this deep dive into advanced engine block repair and precision machining. Whether you’re a seasoned DIY enthusiast or just curious about high-level Land Rover maintenance, there’s plenty to learn and enjoy.
