Dostoevsky is one of the great literary geniuses in history, with a penetrating insight into the inner workings of the human mind. But how did he get this unique ability? Well, much of it seems to stem from his hellish time in a Siberian prison. And this gave him a real understanding of the human, and, indeed, of broken men.
