Mitch and Kyle are at Thunder Valley, a dirt bike track in Morrison Colorado talking about the Sony a9ii. Mitch first talks about the original Sony a9 and compares the different functions and ergonomics against the Sony a9ii. The a9ii has an updated processor (BIONZ X Image Processor & Front-End LSI) that gives a better stabilized and viewfinder experience.
The a9 series cameras are made for sport photographers and an important feature on this cameras is being able to transfer your images while you’re shooting. The 1000BASE-T Ethernet port for faster wired LAN sharing and remote camera operation. 5.0 GHz wireless sharing is a perfect upgrade. Adding a voice memo to an image is not possible with this camera and if you’re using the Sony app it will convert to text.
Enough talking about specs and features, Kyle talks with Mitch about his real world experience shooting the camera at a hockey game the night before. The key features he wants to test is the auto focus system and the low light capabilities. Overall he likes how the camera performs, especially the focusing system that shoots 20fps and locks on his subjects like glue. He tested the low light abilities at the hockey game and he is happy with the results even at high ISOs.
Mitch and Kyle test both cameras on the dirt track to check out the performance differences. With the high frame rate shooting stills and the lock on auto focus Kyle has the upper hand using The Sony a9ii. The first version camera is no slouch and is able to hold its own. Over all the larger grip and larger buttons give the mark ii version a more joyful experience. Not may changes have been made with The Sony a9ii but the changes are welcomed to major sports photographers. With the lower price point the mark I it still is a valid choice for those that would like to save a few dollars.
Last, they show off some images in the studio on the iPad using Lightroom. Kyle explains the images he is showing, to show the sharpness and noise.
