JR Hokkaido's Kiha 183 series ended regular service on March 17, 2023, and made its last run on April 10, 2023. About a year later, on April 15, 2024, 11 cars were shipped from Hakodate Port to Cambodia. After arriving in Cambodia, modifications were made to the bogies in response to the change in gauge (1067mm to 1000mm).
It began commercial operation in the area on October 2, 2024. It runs one round trip per day between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. The one-way fare for the entire section is $10 for ordinary cars and $15 for first class cars (as of January 2025).
The paint of the cars was once changed to Royal Railway paint, but was later changed back to the paint of the JR Hokkaido era. The interior of the cars also remains almost the same as the JR Hokkaido era.
