The above video excerpt analyzes a game that represents Kasparov's style in it's purest form - firmly placing the initiative above any material concerns. Kasparov replies to Karpov's 1. e4 with the Paulsen Variation of the Sicilian Defense, instantly creating ridiculous complications with an unexpected pawn sacrifice on 8. ...d5!!? - blasting open the center for the sake of development and to restrict white's knight on a3. Karpov also plays true to his style in this game, gladly snatching material to achieve better long-term prospects if he can survive the attack. However, Kasparov just plays too good in this encounter and completely disregards material considerations in favor of promoting a powerful initiative and attack - forcing Karpov's resignation on 40. ...Re1+.
