Welcome to Whats Melting?
In this upload I go over the process of making a dot implosion pendant. I start with a blank of 32x4 simax and puff out a bubble on the end of the tube to set up for the dots. Then I pickup a couple coloured rods for the dots. This time I'm using a couple favourite colours, Galaxy and Karmaline from Northstar Glass. I carefully place the first dot as close to the centre of the end of the tube as possible so the whole pattern will condense evenly. To ensure even spacing as I start the first row of dots I start with 2 dots on opposite sides of the first dot. Row after row I alternate the colour and place dots in between dots on the previous row.
After placing all the dots I switch to a larger flame and heat the whole pattern evenly to melt everything in, puffing into the tube in between heating to even the glass out. Next the glass is heated at the point where the tube meets the glass that has been condensed so it can be thinned and stretched in preparation for flame cutting away from the tube. At this point excess glass is skinned away with a rod of glass before adding a handle to the other side all done to get ready to condense the backside of the pattern so that all the dots can be pulled into a termination point.
