We have continued our exploration of a village in Shiga Prefecture.
Once a prosperous mining community, this Goya is now an uninhabited settlement with no permanent residents.
I learned of the existence of this village when I read a book about its history written by a native of the village.
I then made personal contact with the author, and this time I actually went to the site to meet him.
He graciously welcomed us as outsiders and invited us to lunch. We talked a lot about the current situation and future of these villages.
It was a day that convinced us once again of the necessity of keeping records of such places and disseminating them to as many people as possible.
We hope that the next generation, 10 to 20 years from now, will watch our video and feel something.
