directions:
Using a jigsaw cut out your moon. We wanted it to be 30 inches in diameter. Nail a nail or screw in the center. Measure the radius (half of the diameter) Tie a string from the nail to a pen double checking that it is the correct radius. In our case, 15 inches.
Draw a circle and cut with a jig saw.
After that, do a quick sand of all the jagged edges (don't need a power tool, hand sanding is easy)
Prime your moon.
Next cut out the back board: it should be 4 INCHES less than your moon. So for us, it is 26 inches in diameter. Using the string method again with the new radius and cut our another circle.
Combine the moon and the backing:
I used wood glue and a lot of screws.
After your moon is dry, take the CONCRETE PATCH and create the moon texture. Use varying widths and depths and make sure to add a few craters.
Once that is dry (I let it dry overnight), take your paint and start layering. Grey is the go to color but you're going to want to dry brush lots of white highlights on it as sleep. The dark brown that I used helped warm up certain parts of the moon, creating a more realistic color. Push the paint into the concrete don't brush too much.
Seal with a matte top coat.
Once everything is dry, add your lights to the rim of the back board. There is self adhesive on the lights and make sure to add the connector point at the bottom.
Hang as your would a heavy picture on your wall--I drilled into studs. And voila! You've got your moon!
