Helping deer survive heavy winter snow in the Ozarks

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

We've had 3 major snowstorms back to back in just about 3 weeks here in the Southern Missouri Ozark Mountains. Join me in the field today as I share a practice that I have been doing for decades since living in the Northwoods in Northern Wisconsin when my fall food plots for deer get covered in a foot of snow or more I will take my tractor and back blade or loader bucket and scrape open several long paths so that the deer (and birds and other critters) can get access to the remaining food from the fall food plots. The deer have now been working on the radishes and turnips, but with 10 to 12 inches of snow covering them now, that makes it much harder for the animals to access that food. Then after I scrape some new 'food plot' lanes, I'll head back out in the Polaris Ranger for trail cam duty as several of my cameras are just about out of battery life. Also I'll show you some proof that opening up the food plots does help and that the deer do use these strips regularly. Thanks for joining us today and best of luck to everyone who is buried under snow in the Midwest from this last winter snowstorm. But the good news is that at least here in Southern Missouri we should be in the 50's and even 60's this coming week! Woo Hoo!! #winter #fallfoodplots
