The league is trying to incentivize teams to deploy their starting pitchers for longer. If and when something is done, teams will have more incentives to push their starting pitchers deeper into games.
What happens next? Teams will expose pitchers to more pitch types earlier in their careers, hoping to increase the chance they become starting pitchers.
