For some reason I was intimidated with doing the grease in the ball joints and freshening up the gear oil in the axles and transfer case but it was really easy. I used some power tools but still, even if you have just hand tools it's pretty simple and straight forward. I would recommend getting the vehicle up in the air a little bit. ALWAYS use some good jack stands. BE SAFE!! And remember I'm just some knucklehead doing things I'm not qualified to do.
The difficult part was getting the plug out of the transfer case so I could drain the fluid. I never got it out. I took it to a shop and they had to weld a bolt onto the plug to wrench it out. Other than that, changing the fluid in the transfer case would have been easy. Even changing the transfer case output shaft seal was really easy. I did pick up a seal removal tool from Harbor Freight Tools. Really helped out a lot!
This video was pretty fun to make. It took several days to do it all and the first day was STUPID COLD but overall time would maybe be a couple of hours.
Whiskey Juliet is a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.7 V8, 545 RFE automatic transmission, and Quadradrive 4X4 system with the NV247 transfer case. Different years and systems take different amounts and types of fluids. Do your research. Some of the links I've included are for the products specific to my Jeep.
Thank you very much for watching and I really hope you like watching it as much as I enjoyed making it.
