I found this pattern from MAKESUPPLY here on YouTube. It seemed to be simple enough and really didn't need much leather or even many tools to complete. Of course, I ruined it the first time and had to make it twice but the second wallet turned out very nice. In the video, he doesn't dye his leather and used the naturally toned veg tanned leather, but I dyed mine. I like the marbled leather look. I think it makes the piece more interesting.
If you are just learning leather crafting, this would be a good project to begin with. Like I said, you don't need many tools or leather. It's a simple construction and provides a useful and nice looking wallet for someone that doesn't like carrying around a typical bifold or trifold wallet.
I used 4 ounce veg tanned leather. I think it is the right weight for this type of project. I am including a link to the project and to MAKESUPPLY's YouTube channel. In his downloadable pattern area he also has instructions and a list of tools and materials he used so you can get a good idea of the project.
I hope you enjoyed this video. I did something a little different and added some voice over. I got me a microphone that doesn't make me sound like I'm in a metal bucket so I was able to voice in some explanations. Let me know if you all like this kind of voice over editing.
Thank you for watching. Perhaps you'll find this video inspiring and you'll want to pick up leather crafting as a hobby. It's actually rewarding and calming.
