Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Take the mystery out of finding any note on the guitar with this video. Also, get a look at one of my favorite NEW guitars (ever heard of Lowden??), and my Acoustic Artists of the week, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

If you follow the framework in this video, you'll be able to find any note on any string without memorizing all of the notes.

The two things you need to know first are 1) the musical alphabet and 2) whole-steps=2 frets and half-steps=1 fret — the half-steps are always between B and C and E and F (Big Crazy Elephants Fight!).

In this video, I'm applying the concept of steps to the musical alphabet. If you follow along in the video, you'll be able to see how I can find any note on the guitar using this concept!

Be sure to let me know in the comments if this video provided any light bulb moments for you!

After this quick tip, I'll go over how you focus and create intention in your practice sessions.

Start by writing a list of all the things you want to learn on the guitar. From there, organize this list by order of most fun.

If you focus on that, you'll be able to start having fun while playing the guitar...and isn't that the reason why you're playing guitar? If not, leave a comment and tell me why you want to play guitar!

Up next, you'll get to see a guitar that I definitely have my eyes on.

Brendan at @HeartbreakerGuitarshas his Heartbreaker of the Month this week. He decided to feature the new Lowden F50.

The Lowden F50 has a master-grade California cedar top with master-grade Hawaiian Koa back. In addition, the Lowden F50 is sporting the maple five-piece neck instead of the typical mahogany.

This guitar is absolutely stunning, but I really want you to hear how it sounds. It has a punchy, yet rich quality that is so rare to hear in new guitars.

Thanks again to Heartbreaker Guitars, and please visit their website for more information on the Lowden F50!

After the Heartbreaker of the Month, I'm featuring Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Even if you've heard of these folks before, I just can't ignore this duo that embodies all good things about acoustic music.

From their melodies to their lyrics, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are such a joy to listen to.

Additionally, Welch and Rawlings have such a respect space and making room for each other. David Rawlings is one impressive guitar player, but he makes sure that he leaves room for lyrics at every turn.

Be sure to watch the video to catch my full breakdown of this incredible duo!
