This is how a lot of professional loggers use to determine which way a tree is leaning, or which way it naturally wants to fall. Much of the time you can tell which way a tree is leaning just by looking at it. But it’s not always that easy. Especially when slopes, and multiple trees leaning in different directions are involved. Or when a tree is so close to standing straight up, it’s just hard to tell.
