In this episode of "Mysteries of Bulgaria" I want to look together at "Basarbovsky Rock Monastery" and "Ivanovsky Rock Churches", which are located in northern Bulgaria, near the city of Ruse. 😲 Both destinations are favorite for tourists, but the most interesting thing is that they are probably better known abroad than in #bulgaria, which is definitely strange! 🇧🇬 We will enter the #Ivanovsky #rock #churches and see the beautiful fresco "The Last Supper". Also, along with The Clashers, you will also see many beautiful views and greenery from above. The project I went up to the most AWESOME terrace - Mysteries of Bulgaria - Ivanovo rock churches was realized thanks to the historical museum in Ruse, for which I thank you. Their region has many more #mysteries that Bulgaria hides. The video was made for educational purposes and is part of the #mysteries of #Bulgaria as, apart from a scientific note, it also aims to show you some beautiful landscapes. Of course, I also want to stimulate tourism in Bulgaria and make you visit the Ivanovo Rock Churches and see with your own eyes the beauty they hide.

Our journey today starts from the city of Ruse, where a mysterious pearl of Bulgarian Orthodoxy is located just a few kilometers away along a picturesque road by the river. This is the notorious Basarbovsky rock monastery "St. Dimitar".
The monastery is believed to have been built between the 10th and 14th centuries, during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, when Hesychast monks carved their hermitage cells into the soft limestone. The earliest official records are from Ottoman times and there is not much clarity about the period before that. It is known that it was part of the properties of Duke Ivanko Basarab, after whom the nearby village was named. The monastery became famous in the 17th century, when St. Dimitrii Basarbovski, he is considered the patron saint of the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Legend has it that the monk helped thousands during the plague of 1813, and for that on October 26, many Romanians flock here to honor him. It is not clear at what period after that the monastery was abandoned, but it was rediscovered by Karel Shkorpil in 1911. Fortunately, nowadays the Basarbov Holy Monastery is well maintained and functioning.
The most terrifying terrace is cut at a height of about 40 meters, from which a fabulous view over the surroundings is revealed. The experience of standing on it is not for people who are afraid of heights. The church is entered from the other side through a crack in the rock and after a short push and bend we are inside. Our eyes were immediately drawn to the walls and ceilings, which are artfully painted with biblical images and scenes from the lives of the saints.
