This season, quilted sweatshirts have become one of the most popular wardrobe items. They are not only warm and comfortable, but also stylish, making them suitable for a variety of occasions. The last time they were in fashion was in the 70s of the last century, and now they are back in fashion and have become an element of everyday wardrobe.
Quilted sweatshirts are made from various materials, most often cotton. They can be plain or have bright prints. Sweatshirts can be short or long sleeved, and with or without a collar. Decorative elements may include zippers, buttons or belts.
Today I’ll show you how to use leftover fabric and sew a beautiful quilted sweatshirt, but without sleeves.
To give volume to the product, padding polyester and batting are used as the base. But you can get by with a Soviet flannelette blanket.
I made the pattern from my own sweatshirt.
Using strips of cotton fabric I will form a canvas.
To do this, I cut strips 4 cm wide.
The first strip goes along the side seam; to do this, draw a vertical line. I attached the first page to it.
I placed the second strip on top of the first, aligning the edges, and stitched. As a result, two floors are stitched to the main pattern.
Each stitched strip was turned back and ironed.
So stripe by stripe a bright canvas appeared.
Three quilted pieces were stitched along the shoulder and side seams.
I sewed the pockets using this principle.
To finish the edges I used chintz bias tape of a different color. I placed it on the wrong side, stitched it, and turned it over to the right side.
I also treated the pockets.
I basted loops and sewed on buttons as a fastener.
Quilted sweatshirts can be worn with a variety of wardrobe items. They go well with jeans, skirts, trousers or as loungewear.
Such sweatshirts can be washed in a machine at a temperature of 30–40 degrees.
Making a sweatshirt can take some time and require sewing skills. However, the result will be worth the effort.
