After 3 1/2 years, my band Starlines has come to an end. I never saw this ending, so needless to say, it was a huge blow. Not only did I lose helping to create and play music that I love, I lost one of my best friends in the process.
Never heard of Starlines? No one has… Unfortunately we never gave anyone the opportunity. Our sole purpose was to write music that we loved and to create a sound that WE wanted to hear, then record and release records on our own. We accomplished the first part of that goal, but sadly never finished a single full recording before the band came to an end. Now we are left with 40 + of my favorite songs that I ever had the privilege to help create, left unfinished in a MacBook Pro.
So now what? Can I afford to keep my studio? Do I pack up, move out and hope for another meaningful opportunity to come along? I have no recording gear and if I lose the studio, I have nowhere to play. At 52, do I still have it in me to start over?
Well, fuck it! My love of playing is far greater than the idea of throwing my hands in the air, losing my studio and my capacity to continue playing. I’ve been down that road before.
So what’s next? Time to make something out of what I thought, had turned into nothing.
Stay tuned…
