Dan Rowan and Dick Martin were the stars of LAUGH-IN, but it was the comedic women who created so many of the memorable sketches and characters from the variety show. From Edith Ann and Busy Buzzi to the silliness that became synonymous with Goldie, the show became an integral part of our culture in the 60s and 70s. With its roots in vaudeville and burlesque, ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN premiered as a special in 1967 and was so well-received, it became a series in 1968 that ran for 140 episodes until 1973. Producer George Schlatter's quick gags and rapid fire editing style paired with political jabs and risque humor to make LAUGH-IN the most popular show on television.
