What kind of mass did St.Andrew Kim Dae-geon offer at that time? We just vaguely think that the martyrs would have offered the mass in the same way we offer the mass today. However, the way the mass was offered at that time is different from the current mass liturgy. Perhaps, if today's Catholics were to participate in this mass, they might wonder what would happen, what on earth would happen.
The Mass had been passed down for nearly 2,000 years without much change until the liturgical reform of 1970. Pope Benedict XVI did many things during his reign, but a large part of his efforts were to protect this beauty from those who wanted to eliminate the traditional Latin Mass and to ensure that the true Catholic heritage could continue.
The Mass celebrated by the martyrs at that time, the Mass celebrated by Korea's first preist St.Andrea Kim Dae-geon, is the ‘Traditional Latin Mass.’
"What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful."
-Benedict XVI, Summorum Pontificum-
