This is an hour and 10 minute class teaching how to work intarsia in-the-round. It shows you how to think about it in such a way that you will see that it is really easy to do!
Here is the index into the subjects of the video. If you want to learn this technique, I suggest first watch the video all the way through and then use this index to return to sections you would like to see again:
0:00 Introduction - Intarsia in-the-round can be easy!
1:47 Some of the things you will learn in this class.
3:48 A couple of notes about this video: 1) Video speeds up when I'm just knitting. 2) My starting ends have already been woven in and I suggest you do the same.
5:21 How to use this very long video.
6:28 Getting started: What is intarsia?
7:42 Important! Intarsia is always worked flat, even when it is "in-the-round".
9:46 How color changes are worked on a flat piece of intarsia...
10:12 ...on a purl row.
15:46 ...when the pattern calls for the color change to move to another location.
18:27 ...on a knit row.
22:08 The ONE RULE clearly stated: The working yarn of the right section passes over the working yarn of the left section and then passes back under it.
22:44 One place where you see me keeping the yarns from being tangled, as I do at every color change.
23:15 Review what we have learned about intarsia worked flat and transition to beginning to talk about intarsia worked in the round.
24:00 Beginning to describe how to work intarsia in the round
24:53 How to work the first section in the row after turning the work at the BOR (beginning of row) marker. (This happens to be on the purl side.)
29:31 How to work the final section in the row on the purl side.
33:12 Finishing the row, removing the remaining loop by tightening up the extra yarn.
33:58 Starting the row on the knit side.
36:55 How to work the final section in the row on the knit side.
40:01 Removing the loop at the end of the row (again).
40:27 What to do when the pattern moves the color change at the beginning/end of the row...
45:44 ...and when the color change moves at any other point in the row.
47:01 Another place where I keep the yarns untangled after a color change. (If you listen closely, you'll hear me mutter in exasperation, "That isn't right...let's try that again." LOL I was getting tired after hours of making this video in one sitting.)
50:00 The wrong way to learn to work intarsia in the round.
50:43 How to work intarsia in the round when there are only two sections of color, two balls of yarn, and two places where color changes occur. Sounds simpler, but it's not.
56:32 The second (and final) color change in the two-color swatch...and why it is so confusing.
59:10 Ending the row.
1:01:50 A final word about keeping the yarns untangled.
1:05:27 How to know which way to work, knit or purl, when you pick up the work after you have put it aside for a while.
