കേരളത്തെ ലോക ശാസ്ത്രഗവേഷണ ഭൂപടത്തിൽ അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തിയ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ് ഫ്രോഗ് മാൻ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന എസ്. ഡി. ബിജു അഥവാ സത്യഭാമ ദാസ് ബിജു. 30 വർഷത്തിലേറെയായി, ഉഭയജീവിവൈവിധ്യത്തെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ ബിജു ഗവേഷണം നടത്തി വരുന്നു. 116 പുതിയ ഉഭയജീവി ടാക്‌സകളെ വിവരിച്ച ഏക ഇന്ത്യൻ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ് അദ്ദേഹം. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ കണ്ടത്തപ്പെട്ട ഇവയുടെ വൈവിധ്യത്തിന്റെ 25% വും ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തിയത് ഇദ്ദേഹമാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മൂന്ന് ദശാബ്ദക്കാലത്തെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ, പ്രശസ്തമായ ഇന്ത്യൻ പർപ്പിൾ ഫ്രോഗ് ഉൾപ്പെടെ നൂറിലധികം പുതിയ ഇനങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ടെത്തലിലൂടെ, ദക്ഷിണേഷ്യയിലെ ഉഭയജീവികളിലേക്ക് ആഗോള ശ്രദ്ധ ആകർഷിച്ചു. നേച്ചർ, സയൻസ്, പിഎൻഎഎസ് തുടങ്ങിയ മികച്ച ശാസ്ത്ര ജേണലുകളിൽ 100-ലധികം ലേഖനങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2022 ൽ കേരള സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരിന്റെ പരമോന്നത സിവിലിയൻ പുരസ്‌കാരമായ കേരള ശ്രീ ഡോ. എസ് ഡി ബിജുവിന് ലഭിച്ചു. നിലവിൽ ഡൽഹി സർവകലാശാലയിലെ പരിസ്ഥിതി പഠന വിഭാഗത്തിലെ പ്രൊഫസറും ഹാർവാർഡ് സർവകലാശാലയിൽ റാഡ്ക്ലിഫ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് അഡ്വാൻസ് സ്റ്റഡീസിൽ റാഡ്ക്ലിഫ് ഫെല്ലോയുമാണ് അദ്ദേഹം.
Sathyabhama Das Biju (born May, 1963) is an Indian amphibian biologist, wildlife conservationist and heads the Systematics Lab at the University of Delhi, Department of Environmental Studies and is currently in Harvard University as a Radcliffe Fellow at the Radcliffe Institue for Advanced Study. He is dubbed as the "Frogman of India" by media for his passion for frogs and for bringing fresh fascination for Indian amphibians.
Currently, Biju is a Senior Professor at the Department of Environmental Studies University of Delhi. He is also an Associate of the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (OEB) and the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. In 2022, he was honoured with Kerala Sree Award, third highest civilian award given by the Government of Kerala. A Radcliffe Hrdy fellow, Biju has also served as the Dean, Faculty of Science and Head, Department of Environmental Studies at University of Delhi. He was elected as a fellow to the Indian National Science Academy in 2023.
