When I was around 10 years old I acquired an old Soundscriber dictation machine. It recorded onto green plastic discs. I played with it making recordings from the radio and also recording my own organ playing. The machine made fairly good audio recordings considering that it was purposed for office use. For many years I had wanted to acquire a professional portable lathe such as a Presto or Skully but whenever they surface the sellers want more money for them than I am willing to pay. I am still looking though. I will find one someday.

This Meissner machine is a consumer grade (home use) recorder but as home record cutters go I think this machine is a level slightly above the home recorder grade but then again below professional.

It is always an adventure for me to find some obscure piece of equipment and then have the fun of restoring it to working condition which is my intent with this machine. I can still find blank discs either new old stock or newly made vinyl discs. I don’t intend to record many discs but enough to just have fun with this machine.

The location I drove to buy this machine was Middleton Wisconsin and as Middleton is a college town and considering the particular recordings on the one disc that I got with the machine I will assume it was originally owned by a music teacher when the machine was new.
