This is my first attempts at cutting a PVC vinyl disc on this machine. The results were terrible as I expected them to be.
For one; this machine was originally designed to cut a blank acetate disc with a hardened tungsten stylus. It was not intended to cut a PVC vinyl disc.
My first cut; I used the tungsten stylus and the surface noise was almost louder than the recording. The audio gain seemed too high although the overload light was only blinking on occasion.
My second cut; I used the sapphire cutting stylus. This recording had far less surface noise but a bit of wow. I am not sure if the "swarf" collecting in the center caused the wow or if the drag on the cutting stylus caused it. I did nothing to pre-treat the disc. The audio gain still seemed to be too high.
I will play around with this machine off camera and if I come up with the best way to record I will post a PT3 video.
