This is the story about another early squarebill maker, Mike Estep, of Oak Ridge Tennessee. Estep was taught how to make plugs from Fred C. Young, the maker of the Big-O. The Big-O changed the face of crankbaits and the genre of baits would become known as the Squarebill.
Estep took what he learned from Fred Young and built on that design. He created the first wooden crankbait with a rattle, a better weighting system, and paint method. His works were truly game changing.
This is the story of who he was and what he brought to the crankbait industry.
