In this video, I explained the development process of the F-2, the development system, technology transfer between Japan and the U.S., design details, changes from the F-16, and improvements after mass production.
At a time when trade friction between Japan and the U.S. was fierce, political and economic issues prevented the development of a purely domestic fighter, and it was decided to modify the F-2 from the F-16.
Using the F-16, which was developed about 20 years ago, as a base for development, Japan succeeded in creating a new 4.5 generation fighter by adding new domestic technology, instead of wasting time "redeveloping the wheel".
The background, development system, and changes from the F-16 block 40 are explained based on the designer's book.
