Narration in English Grammar l Direct and Indirect Speech l Best tricks for Narration
In this video I have discussed the basic concept of Narration . One of the most confusing aspects of Narration is the use of pronouns . I have tried to explain this with great tricks . Narration or Reporting has two parts - a) Reporting Speech b) Reported Speech. The verb of reporting speech is called reporting verb and the verb of reported speech is called reported verb .
While changing narration , first of all you have to see the pronoun of reported speech.
1) If the pronoun is first person , the pronoun has to be changed according to the subject of the reporting verb and also you have to keep an eye on the subjective , objective and possessive case .
2) If the pronoun is second person , the pronoun has to be changed according to the object of the reporting verb.
3) If the pronoun is third person ,there is no need to change.
Rule - 1 : The tense of the reported verb never changes if the reporting verb is present or future tense.
Rule - 2 : If the reporting verb is past tense, some changes have to be made in the tense of the reported verb .
Finally , I have discussed some of the exceptional cases of rule - 2
