His career came and went in the blink of an eye, and his time with the San Diego Chargers has become even more forgotten due to the arrival of LaDainian Tomlinson shortly after he retired. But for a brief period in the 90s, Natrone Means was one of the most unique Running Backs in the NFL. After a great career with the North Carolina Tar Heels, he was drafted to the San Diego Chargers. Then By year 2, a 22 year old Means was leading the Chargers offense as the team made a Cinderella run to Super Bowl XXIX, before running into Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Ricky Watters and the San Francisco 49ers. But after one more season, Means was out in San Diego, ending up on a new Jacksonville JAguars team led by Mark Brunell as Means would play a massive role in the Jags run to the AFC Championship during the 1996 season. He would return to San Diego a couple years later, but a broken foot kicked off series of injuries that had him out of the league less than 3 years later. But even though Means had a short and inconsistent career, his spurts of healthy and motivated play were a thing of beauty.
