On February 21, 2025, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated Meluri as Nagaland’s 17th district at a ceremony in Meluri. He congratulated the people and acknowledged the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) for their support. Rio highlighted Meluri's rich natural resources, strategic location near Myanmar, and potential for eco-tourism. He also discussed plans to improve trade and connectivity through waterways. Meluri, granted district status in November 2024, covers 1,011 square kilometers and includes 34 villages. The inauguration began with a monolith unveiling, followed by the opening of a Multi-purpose Hall. Dignitaries included Dr. J. Alam, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, K. G. Kenye, and Vezühu Keyho. The ceremony featured prayers, musical performances, and cultural dances, with a vote of thanks by Siewatho S. Nyusou and a benediction by Rev. Rathvü Thüvüri.
