In the fall of 2024, I traveled to Latvia to join the Northmen in learning how to build a timber frame the old-fashioned way, using traditional tools and techniques. This video is my story from that unforgettable experience, one of craftsmanship, camaraderie, and inspiration. A huge thank you to everyone at @northmenguild for their hospitality and guidance in making this dream a reality.
The timber frame that you could see being designed in the middle of the video is part of an exciting project: the future Maker Barn here in Denmark. It will replace the very old barn currently on my property, and I can’t wait to bring this vision to life. The design itself was crafted by Søren from the Northmen—an incredibly talented blacksmith and designer, who is also running a fundraiser to support the Guild’s Forge. If you’d like to support the forge and their amazing work, check out the fundraiser here: https://4fund.com/yuewuw.
If you’re inspired and want to attend the same Timber Framing and Log Building course, all the details can be found here: https://northmen.com/en/courses/timber-framing-and-log-building/course-overview.
