Since his book - ‘If Only They Could Talk’ - was published in 1970, James Herriot – the pen name of James Alfred Wight – has delighted generations with endearing stories of his life as a veterinarian in North Yorkshire from the 1930s-50s.

The charm of a country vet going about his rounds has since brought James Heriot global fame, from his first appearance in ‘If Only They Could Talk’ (1970) to films (All Creatures Great and Small (1975) and It Shouldn’t Happen to a Vet (1976)) and television adaptations from the original from 1978-1990 - of which I, along with many people watched, and now the Channel 5 series (2020-present).

As filming for All Creatures Great and Small series 6 get under way in the Yorkshire Dales, and having been out walking with my camera and drone, I thought I’d highlight just a few of my favourite locations from the recent series.

It's been a great first five series, and it’s good to know that the cast and crew of All Creatures Great and Small are back in the Yorkshire Dales filming the third series and making a welcome return to many of their favourite locations, from Grassington, which is Darrowby, to Arncliffe, the village used for some aspects of Skeldale House, and Yockenthwaite Farm, the Aldersons' home.

I’ve loved the Yorkshire Dales from when my parents used to make the short journey for holidays when I was a child, to the days when Julia and I used to take our son Matthew there as he was growing up. So, I hope you enjoy this short video, and if you’ve missed the TV series, you can still watch all series on Channel 5 catch-up. https://www.channel5.com/show/all-creatures-great-and-small/season-1
