Ernie Davis was the first African American football player to win the Heisman Award, an award given annually to the most outstanding athlete in college football. His legacy on and off the football field lives on to inspire others, despite the fact that Davis never got the chance to play a game of professional football, due to dying at age 23 after battling leukemia for over a year. His story serves as an encouragement to all and a countless reminder of his character and integrity.
