New Shepard is named after Alan Shepard who became America's first astronaut when he flew the Mercury Spacecraft, and given the recent NS-31 flight and some people trying to compare this flight to Alan Shepard's I though it would be educational to compare what he was tasked with doing during his first short flight into space.
