Paruyr Hayrikyan (born July 5, 1949) is an Armenian politician and former Soviet dissident.
In Soviet times, he was placed several times in penal labor camps for his activiies and eventually stripped of Soviet citizenship and exiled to Ethiopia after his accusations of Soviet leadership in the instigation of Sumgait pogroms of Armenian population. In Addis Ababa he applied for and was granted asylum by the United States, where he remained for some time. In 1990, following pressure of a group of United States senators led by Bob Dole, Mikhail Gorbachev restored Hayrikyan's citizenship and allowed him to return. Since then Hayrikyan has taken an active part in Armenian political life.

Պարույր Արշավիրի Հայրիկյանը (ծնվ.` հուլիսի 5 1949 թ.) հայ ազգային, քաղաքական գործիչ է, խորհրդային նշանավոր այլախոհ,1968-ից գաղտնի գործող Ազգային միացյալ կուսակցության անդամ, այնուհետև` ղեկավար, Ազգային ինքնորոշում միավորում կուսակցության առաջնորդ, Խորհրդային Միության ժողովրդավարական շարժումների հիմնադիր և ղեկավար, գրող, երգահան:
Ազգային Միացյալ Կուսակցությունը հիմնադրվել է 1966 թ Ապրիլի 24-ին. ԱՄԿ-ի երեք հիմնադիրներն էին Հայկազ Խաչատրյանը, Ստեփան Զատիկյանը եւ Շահեն Հարությունյանը. 1968 թվին կուսակցության հիմնադիրների ձերբակալումից եւ բանտարկությունից հետո Պարույր Հայրիկյանը դառնում է Ազգային Միացյալ Կուսակցության ղեկավար: ԱՄԿ-ի հիմնական նպատակներն էին Խորհրդային Հայաստանի անկախությունը Խորհրդային Ռուսաստանից եւ 1915-1923 թ.թ. հայոց ցեղասպանության հետեւանքների վերացումը: 1973 թ.-ին ԱՄԿ-ի վերընտրված նախագահ Պարույր Հայրիկյանը հիմնել է անկախություն հանրաքվեի ճանապարով ռազմավարությունը:
Ազգային ինքնորոշում միավորումը (ԱԻՄ) հիմնել է Պարույր Հայրիկյանը 1987 թվականի սեպտեմբերին: Այն Խորհրդային Միության տարածքում բացահայտ գործող առաջին ազգային-քաղաքական-ժողովրդավարական կազմակերպությունն էր: ԱԻՄ-ը հրատարակում էր «Անկախություն» շաբաթաթերթը, որը Խ.Մ. տարածքում առաջին այլընտրանքային քաղաքական պարբերականն էր:
Paruyr Hayrikyan (born July 5, 1949), an Armenian national and political activist, and prominent Soviet dissident. From 1967 a member National United Party (NUP) and then head of the (NUP) from 1968. Afterwards in 1987 Paruyr Hayrikyan bacame leader and founder of the National Self-Determination (NSDU) political party. P. Hayrikyan is known and acknowledged as the founder and director of the demctratic movements in the Soviet Union. He is also a writer and a composer.
National United Party (NUP) was founded in 1966 on April 24. NUP's three founders were Haykaz Khachatryan, Stephan Zatikyan and Shahen Harutyunyan. When the founders of the party were imprisoned in 1968 after the arrest of the founders and with their confinement Hayrikyan becomes head of the National United Party (NUP). The main goals of (NUP) were independence of Soviet Armenia and Soviet Russia and the elimination of the consequences of the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923). In 1973 in the National United Party (NUP)'s re-elected president P. Hayrikyan founded and established "The Road to Independence through Referendum Strategy".
National Self-Determination Union (NSDU) party was established by Paruyr Hayrikyan in September 1987. National Self-Determination Union (NSDU) was the first openly operating national-political-democratic organization within the territory of the USSR. NSDU published the "Independence" weekly newspaper starting from October 24th of 1987. The "Independence" weekly newspaper was the first alternative political periodic newspaper in the Soviet Union.
