HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle is head-over-heels for his Gen 2.5 "Blister Fender" Montero, but it does have over 225,000 miles on the clock. For the most part, the truck lives up to Mitsubishi's Dakar-proven reliability. The suspension does get a bit rattly, though, and the rear end tends to bottom out on washboard roads and going over speedbumps.

In this DIY, the Montero gets a beefy new set of Old Man Emu springs, plus new sway bar bushings and end links "while you're in there." The ride quality jumps through the roof with the rear end firmed up and all in, the parts cost well under $250. Next up is front axle work including new ball joints, sway bar components, and wheel bearings.
