Do you need the Rit Colorstay Dye Fixative https://amzn.to/2HJPMPZ to dye cotton yarns with rit dyes? Will it help with the overall colorfastness when you tie dye t-shirts? Let's investigate this step in the recommended dyeing process and dye 2 shirts and 2 miniskeins of KnitPicks Simply Cotton Worsted yarn http://shrsl.com/wcnv with Navy Liquid Rit Dye. (Affiliate Links) We will treat one shirt and one skein of yarn with the dye fixative, and leave the other set untreated. Then, we will put all of the dyed cotton fiber through multiple rounds in the washing machine with detergent to see if we can observe any differences. All of the cotton fibers (shirts and yarn) were presoaked in plain tap water for a minimum of 30 min [2:56] The dyebath - 1 gallon (16 cups) water, 1/3 cup salt (the recommended proportion), and 1/3 cup of the Rit Navy Liquid dye.
