FAQ:
Q - What is Any% [Crazy]?
A - It means "beat the game's highest difficulty mode as quickly as humanly possible with no in-game restrictions." This means the runner can use save files using pre-strengthened characters, change in-game Options, and enter the game's Name cheats (like DAMAX and PLAYA). This DOESN'T mean that things like splicing or other forms of actual cheating are allowed - you can only use the game the way it was intended! Also, changing the difficulty mode at any point during the run is not allowed!
Q - What platform are you playing on? Is it emulator?
A - Console! I'm playing the actual Game Boy Advance cartridge through the GameCube, using the GameCube Player mount and disc.
Q - Why does your player character look like that?
A - I used Custom Self, a special item in the game that allows you to customize your character's appearance quite robustly.
Q - How does does your player character have those moves? I can't find those techniques in shops/I can't get them to work the way you're using them!
A - Some amazing things can be done with the special items Custom Char and Custom Move. With Custom Char, you can retrieve the exact data of any non-gang member character in the game, with their stats and techniques intact. You can then Merge said characters into the data of another one, thus transferring all techniques and averaging their stats together. This is how I got techniques only certain bosses use. Then, I used Custom Move to change the inputs for those techniques, which allows for some awesome new effects - like triggering Head Bomb infinitely by changing its input to Jump+Jump!
Q - How do you control the character when he's running that fast?
A - Lots of practice and lots of hand pain.
Q - Why are you using the same move over and over? It looks boring.
A - The only goal of a speedrun is to go as fast as possible! Swag doesn't win you points on the leaderboard!
Q - Why don't you do [insert idea here] instead?
A - Good question! I tried to come up with the fastest humanly possible method of beating the game all by myself, and it's possible I'm missing something! So PLEASE, I would be THRILLED if you try this out for yourself, using any method you want!! Tweet at me with your findings and PBs at @seireasong, and/or message Seirea on speedrun.com!
Q - What's the point of this?
A - Speedrunning is a fun and extremely challenging way of adding replay value to your all-time favorite games, or any game at all! The first time I tried speedrunning RCREX in 2015, no speedruns existed on the official speedrun.com leaderboards, so I had to create the page myself. I left it for years and forgot all about it. Then Redd92 beat my world record, and once I found out, I felt a brand new competitive fire! It motivated me to create entirely new routes for categories like this, so I could experience new challenges with one of my favorite games ever. It's been indescribable fun, and destroying the game like this after it beats you down feels absolutely otherworldly.
