FAQ:

Q - What is Novice Co-op?
A - It means "complete River City Ransom (NES) as quickly as possible with 2 players on the Novice difficulty mode (the medium difficulty mode in the Japanese version)." The runners start from the beginning of the game and attempt to beat Simon (Yamada). The run ends when the screen cuts to black after Simon's speech.

Q - It takes me more hits than you to beat these bosses in Novice! What gives?
A - You probably don't have FLOATING STATE active. Whenever you see me jump on the way to Blade, before Turk's room, before Ivan's room, and up to the top of the gym, it activates floating state. Basically, whenever you do a fully charged dash jump, River City Ransom makes your attacks more powerful, and for some reason, this does not stop even when you land - your grounded attacks will be stronger until you either do a standard jump or fall down (thus losing floating state).

Q - What platform are you playing on? Is it emulator?
A - Yes, the Mesen emulator. 0.9.9.

Q - Why don't you do [insert idea here] instead?
A - Good question! willbobsled has (very successfully) tried to come up with the fastest humanly possible method of beating the game, and he's INCREDIBLY good at it, so there may not be many stones left that he hasn't unturned. But feel free to ask...you don't know until you do!

Q - What's the point of this?
A - Speedrunning is a fun and extremely challenging way of adding replay value to your all-time favorite games, or any game at all! The first time I tried speedrunning River City Ransom EX (GBA) in 2015, no speedruns existed on the official speedrun.com leaderboards, so I had to create the page myself. I left it for years and forgot all about it. Then Redd92 beat my world record, and once I found out, I felt a brand new competitive fire! It motivated me to create entirely new routes for categories in that game, so I could experience new challenges with one of my favorite games ever. It's been indescribable fun, and triumphing over the game like this after it beats you down feels absolutely otherwordly. River City Ransom (NES) also has a lot of speedrunning history, so climbing the ranks in this game feels incredibly special, especially because it was the first video game I ever played.
