Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Sorry for the blotchy microphone.

Ruff City is a lighthearted 2023 indie beat-em-up game. It features a short, straightforward story campaign, which this video shows being completed in its entirety, in as little time as possible.

This video is the result of one session of co-op between me and yelsraek at AGDQ 2025. I'd been speedrunning the game for a few months, while this was yels's first time ever playing the game. It's certain that improvements can be made after only one session, but it feels good to clear a minute barrier on our first completed glitchless run!

Hope this is enjoyable or informative! Feel free to subscribe, and/or follow my Twitch channel, for more stuff like this!

FAQ:

Q - What is "NWG"?
A - No Weapon Glitch. As of the time of our playing, the game could be exploited with a glitch that causes weapons to never break, massively speeding up fights with their power. This speedrunning category bans that glitch.

Q - What platform are you playing on?
A - PC. I have this game on Steam.

Q - What controller are you using?
A - A blue Nintendo Switch Hori controller - the USB works for holistic PC use as well.

Q - Why don't you do [insert idea here] instead?
A - Good question! I seem to be the first person to record speedrun attempts of this game, and I'm not sure how many stones are left unturned! I'd be happy to have more of those possible stones pointed out to me.

Q - What's the point of this?
A - Speedrunning is a fun and extremely challenging way of adding replay value to your all-time favorite games, or any game at all! The first time I tried speedrunning River City Ransom EX (GBA) in 2015, no speedruns existed on the official speedrun.com leaderboards, so I had to create the page myself. I left it for years and forgot all about it. Then Redd92 beat my world record, and once I found out, I felt a brand new competitive fire! It motivated me to create entirely new routes for categories in that game, so I could experience new challenges with one of my favorite games ever. It's been indescribable fun, and triumphing over the game after it beats you down feels absolutely otherwordly. River City Ransom (NES) also has a lot of speedrunning history, so climbing the ranks in that game felt incredibly special, especially because it was the first video game I ever played.
