Held on the third Friday, Saturday and Sunday of May, mainly among the 44 parishioners of Asakusa Shrine, it is one of Japan's most famous festivals, attracting approximately 1.8 million people over three days and featuring a spectacular and dynamic portable shrine procession that still retains the atmosphere of the Edo period.
It is said that Asakusa, a downtown area that still retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, is the most lively time of the year, and this has become one of the most representative seasonal scenes of early summer in Tokyo.
