Hey friends! 🌿 Today’s vlog is a chill mix of planting, cooking, and a little DIY. I start by potting some plants that have been rooting in water (they haven’t grown much, but I’m still hopeful!). Then, I get into the kitchen to make a simple vegan pea soup with crispy homemade bread topped with sesame seeds. It’s super simple, but so comforting. 🍲

While the soup is cooking, I dive into the end of my library book – a 1969 sci-fi thriller that's hilariously outdated but totally fascinating! After that, I dive into making scrunchies with my old sewing machine (perfect for keeping my sleeves dry when I wash my face!). ✂️💕

Then, I get back to planting for a bit, just enjoying the process of taking care of my little plants. 🌱

Recipes:

500 g dried peas
2 l water
2 carrots
1 onion
2 dl dark soy grits
1 vegetable stock
2 tbsp mustard
1 tsp marjoram
1 tsp salt

Preparation

1. Rinse the peas and soak them in two liters of cold water overnight.
2. Boil the peas in their soaking water over low heat for 1 hour 15 minutes.
3. Wash, peel and dice the carrots. Peel and chop the onion. Add the vegetables, soy grits and stock to the soup. Continue cooking for about 45 minutes. Add water if necessary.
4. Spice the finished soup with mustard, marjoram and salt. Serve the pea soup with chopped onion and mustard if desired.

Crispbread:

3 dl rolled oats
3 dl whole wheat flour
1 1/2 dl shelled sesame seeds
3 dl cold water
1/2 dl oil
3/4 tsp salt

1. Mix the flakes, flour and seeds in a bowl. Add water, oil and salt. Mix to a smooth, mushy dough.
2. Pat the dough into a flat sheet the size of a baking tray on a baking sheet lined with baking paper with your hands moistened with water or oil. If you roll out the sheet, use plenty of flour to help.
3. Bake at 200°C on the middle shelf of the oven for 20–30 minutes. Keep an eye on the crispbread during baking to ensure it does not burn. You can turn the crispbread inside out towards the end of baking. Turn off the oven and leave the crispbread in the residual heat for another 10–15 minutes if necessary. Let it cool on a wire rack without a baking cloth.

DIY Scrunchie:

Supplies:

A piece of fabric. The size of my piece was 76 x 12cm
20 cm elastic band

1. Cut a piece of fabric of the right size. I cut a piece of fabric measuring about 60 x 12 cm, which made a really fluffy hair doughnut.

2. Cut a piece of elastic. The length of the elastic is 15 cm. At this size, the hair doughnut will be roughly the size of a large pompom and will fit well on your wrist.

3. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and sew the long side. Sew the side first with a straight stitch and finish with a basting stitch. Make sure the wrong side of the fabric is facing out. Pin if necessary before sewing.

4. Sew the other short end closed and sew the other end of the elastic band to the seam at the same time. The elastic band can be placed in the middle of the fabric or towards the desired inner seam. In finished hair donuts, the elastic band is placed in the inner seam.

5. Turn the work the inside out. For example, attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic band so that it does not escape inside the work. I myself tied the end of the elastic band to my finger. Now turn the work, for example using a pencil, by placing it inside the work from the end that has already been sewn. If you are making a larger hair doughnut, you do not need any tools to turn the work, but you can turn the work without them.

6. Sew the other end of the elastic to the open end of the piece. Finish the seam. Sew the elastic to the same place where you sewed the other end the first time.

7. Fold the previously sewn end of the tube in. The length of the fold should be at least 1 cm.

8. Tuck the other sewn end inside this folded end. Secure the ends with pins if necessary.

9. Sew the piece into a circle using a straight stitch. Sew the seam as close to the folded edge as possible.
