Hazrat Rabi'a Basri (714-801 CE) was a renowned Muslim saint, mystic, and poet from Basra, Iraq. Born into a poor but noble family, Rabi'a was sold into slavery as a child. However, her master, recognizing her piety and devotion, freed her. Rabi'a dedicated her life to worship, prayer, and spiritual growth. She spent most of her time in solitude, meditating and contemplating the divine. Her love for Allah was so intense that she would often say, "O Allah, if I worship You for fear of Hell, burn me in Hell. If I worship You for desire of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise. But if I worship You for Your own sake, then withhold not from me Your Eternal Beauty." Rabi'a's teachings emphasized the importance of selfless love, detachment from worldly desires, and the pursuit of spiritual purity. She was a pioneer of Sufism, a mystical tradition within Islam that emphasizes the inner dimension of faith.
