An early September tour of my UK tropical style garden, walking through my leafy North Lincolnshire jungle and talking about how my exotic plants came through the colder winter freezes earlier in the year and have generally grown surprisingly well considering the cool, wet summer this year! As always, I've tried to include as many hardy exotic plant names, planting ideas, overwintering successes, plant failures and care tips to hopefully help or inspire you with your exotic garden. Today's main topics are filler plants - great for instant impact and creating a lush, colourful garden but can they overstay their welcome, the evolution of an exotic garden and how some plants like the Gunnera manicata / cryptica might just have overgrown their space! The garden has been a low maintenance project this year, with most of my efforts focused on continuing my fire pit sunken patio and Mediterranean garden transformation so it may lack the finesse and finish of a perfect summer display with bedding plants and containers BUT I think it's helpful to see just how well a lot of plants have done with no care whatsoever! From Dicksonia antartica to Canna altensteinii, Schefflera taiwaniana to Borinda papyrifera bamboo it's actually been a great growing season for a lot of exciting and colourful tropical style plants, so I hope you enjoy seeing them and, as always, just ignore the weeds...

Feel free to leave any of your tropical style or jungle plant questions or experiences in the comments, it's great to hear from you!
