Magdalena Grzebałkowska writes about Gęborski's selection of subordinates in her contemporary reportage: 'He selects guards randomly. He offers jobs to strangers on the streets of Niemodlin, looks for them in police stations when they are doing their business, asks them to notify their relatives that there is a job waiting for them in the Recovered Territories, and informs his friends from the Dąbrowa Górnicza area. None of the guards has a secondary education, almost all of them lost a beloved ones during the war, were prisoners of concentration camps, were deported to forced labor and feel wronged by the Germans. They are mostly young, some are under 18 years old. The commander himself is 20 years old (or 21). He chooses 18-year-old Ignacy «Ignac» Szypuła, who speaks good German, as his adjutant. Gęborski does not know this language. Gęborski writes the camp regulations from his head. His superiors only advise him: "You know the German camps, you stayed in them, so you know"
For Gęborski, murdering and abusing people was a daily occurrence. According to some witnesses, he killed when he was angry about some professional failure.
