The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska is the best zoo in the country! There, I said it! What makes this zoo so great you ask? Well, come along with me to journey on the SKYFARI, perhaps the greatest aerial adventure a zoo has ever offered! And while you're here, you’ll also get to see the incredible Lied Jungle, America’s largest indoor rainforest. Then there's the Desert Dome, which is actually over 13 stories tall! This is because under the Desert Dome is the The Kingdoms of the Night, which includes some incredible themed areas including caves and a swamp. That part may secretly be my favorite part of the whole zoo!
I must say, those first few attractions alone sold me on the Omaha Zoo but there is still so much more. There is also the Orangutan Forest and Gorilla Valley, which includes all sorts of animals! You also get to take a ride with me on the Omaha Zoo Railroad, where we get to see parts of the zoo a little more quickly. We then have more elephants than you could ever imagine and some close up encounters with a giraffe! There’s even a whole Butterfly and Insect pavilion, the Asian Highlands area that includes some great personal time with a rhinoceros, and then also an ENTIRE ADDITIONAL AQUARIUM!
And that is only everything I actually had time to do! Which is why I really have to advise giving yourself a full day here, because I had a good 4 ½ hours and still had so much ground left I could have covered! I didn’t even get a chance to ride Sue’s Carousel, take a peek in the Aviary, adventure into Expedition Madagascar, visit Stingray Beach, traverse the Sea Lion Shores or even see the Giant Screen movie! What I’m trying to say is, even without doing every little thing, I still did SO much and was easily able to feel the incredible nature of this zoo (pun intended)!
